Depression Treatment in Colorado Springs

Feeling persistently low, uninterested, tired, or disconnected can be more than just a rough patch—it may be depression. At Rain Tree Mental Health, we offer compassionate evaluation and medication management for adults with depression, in person in Colorado Springs and via telehealth throughout Colorado. Our aim is to help you understand what’s happening, regain energy, reconnect with your life, and build a realistic plan for change.

What is depression?

Depression (major depressive disorder and related conditions) involves more than feeling sad or unmotivated. It often means persistent changes in mood, energy, sleep, interest, and thinking that affect daily functioning. It is not a character flaw or a sign of weakness. With the right support, people often recover or learn to manage their symptoms more effectively.

Signs of elevated mood / hypomania / mania:

  • Persistent sadness, emptiness, or hopelessness

  • Loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed

  • Significant changes in appetite or weight

  • Sleeping too much or difficulty sleeping

  • Fatigue or slowed movement/thinking

  • Feeling worthless or excessively guilty

  • Difficulty concentrating, making decisions, or remembering things

  • Thoughts of death or suicide

You don’t need to have every symptom listed here for depression to be present.

How we evaluate depression at Rain Tree Mental Health

A thorough depression evaluation includes:

  • A detailed discussion about how you feel and how long symptoms have lasted

  • Review of daily functioning, sleep patterns, and energy levels

  • Evaluation of medical history, medication history, trauma, ADHD, and substance use

  • Use of depression screening tools when helpful

  • Discussion of safety, including self-harm or suicidal thoughts if present

We provide clear, understandable feedback and work with you to define goals and next steps.

Treatment and medication management

Evaluating bipolar disorder requires careful attention to your history, mood patterns, and overall well‑being. An evaluation may include:

  • A detailed discussion of current symptoms and how they impact daily life

  • Review of mood episodes, sleep patterns, energy levels, and how long changes last

  • History of medications, mental health conditions, trauma, or substance use

  • Screening tools to better understand your symptoms

  • Consideration of medical issues that can mimic bipolar symptoms, such as thyroid disorders

We explain our impressions in clear language and work together to determine whether bipolar disorder fits your experience and what treatment steps make sense.

Treatment and medication management

When treatment is appropriate, we use a thoughtful, evidence-informed approach that may include:

  • Antidepressant medications tailored to symptoms and health history

  • Education about how depression affects the brain and what to expect from treatment

  • Lifestyle supports such as sleep hygiene, structure, and physical activity

  • Coordination with therapists, primary care providers, or other specialists

You remain in control throughout treatment. Follow-up visits focus on what is improving, what still feels difficult, and whether adjustments are needed.

Is it depression or something else?

Fatigue, low mood, sleep changes, and loss of interest can come from many causes—including medical issues (thyroid, vitamin deficiencies), hormonal changes, other mental health conditions (anxiety, bipolar), substance use, and life stressors. We help you explore all possible causes rather than assume one explanation. If depression isn’t the primary issue, we will still help you understand what we do see and how to move forward.

If you’ve been experiencing persistent low mood, loss of interest, or disconnection from what matters most, you don’t have to face it alone. We can help you take the next step toward feeling better.
