Mental Illnesses We Treat
How does the process work?

We start by listening. At your first visit, we take time to review your symptoms, history, current medications, and goals in detail. We may ask about sleep, mood, focus, energy, trauma history, and how your daily life is being affected. This appointment is also a chance for you to ask questions and share what has and has not helped in the past. By the end of the evaluation, we work with you to outline initial next steps that fit your comfort level and priorities.

If medication is appropriate, we talk through options, how they work, possible side effects, and any monitoring that may be needed. We review your past medication experiences and medical history so we can choose options that are more likely to be effective and better tolerated. You stay in control of the plan and can always say yes, no, or not yet. Follow up visits focus on what is improving, what still feels hard, and whether we should adjust doses, switch medications, or consider additional supports.

Next, we work together to clarify what is going on. We consider medical, psychological, and situational factors, and when helpful we may use screening tools or request lab work to rule out other causes. Any working diagnoses are explained in plain language, including how they relate to your symptoms and what that diagnosis does and does not mean. You are invited to share whether the diagnosis feels accurate to you, and we adjust our understanding as we learn more together over time.

You do not have to do this alone. With your permission, we coordinate with your therapist, primary care provider, or other specialists so your care feels consistent rather than fragmented. When needed, we can provide referrals to therapy, higher levels of care, or community resources that match your needs and preferences. Our goal is to support you as part of a broader team, so that everyone involved in your care is moving in the same direction and you are at the center of that plan.
